In the current context of implementing the state policy of digitalization, the use of geoinformation technologies (GIS) and cartographic materials plays an important role in the teaching of school geography. Such technologies enable the organization of learning in an interactive, practice-oriented, and visual format, which in turn contributes to increasing students’ interest in the subject and improving the quality of their knowledge. In this context, a seminar organized by the AbaiLabs Scientific and Innovation Park of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University within the framework of the Scientific and Methodological Center for Geography, Ecology, and Tourism, in cooperation with the Almaty Kitap publishing house, representatives of the Almaty City Department of Education, and volunteer faculty members, proved to be an effective tool for enhancing the professional training of school teachers. The scientific and methodological seminar had a strong practical orientation: teachers were given the opportunity to complete specific cartographic tasks, apply modern GIS tools, and enrich their lesson plans with interactive teaching methods.
The article analyzes the organization and format of the scientific and methodological seminar, its pedagogical and methodological outcomes, as well as its applied practical effectiveness. In addition, the role of the seminar in improving teachers’ professional competence, technological literacy, skills in applying interactive methods in the classroom, and the quality of student-centered instruction is examined. For the first time in the history of the university and the Department of Geography and Ecology, a seminar program conducted under the guidance of volunteer faculty members demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating such initiatives into the professional development process of school teachers and provides a basis for developing practical recommendations for the wider implementation of similar seminars in the future.
